Osman Yousefzada SS15: Wanderlust

by Charly Suggett

Speaking inside the taxi heading to North London at 3am just a few hours before his Spring/Summer 15 show was set to commence, Osman Yousefzada spoke of his OSMAN girl.

Although incredibly sleepy, he spoke passionately about how his girl was a modern traveller. She was incredibly free-spirited and loved to see the world, much like himself, yet there was still an element of opulence at play, demonstrated by the almost mollusk-like pearl embellishments upon Pyjama suits, dresses and patchwork separates. Perhaps inspiration drew from the sights of the world and its vast beaches?

The shapes remain modern and sophisticated with a-line skirts and cut out knits in silvers and ‘splodge’ prints with the prints also being reminiscent of the ink stains of a travellers diary, perhaps. More traveller aspects came into play in the form of ponchos and maxi skirts with dresses in patchwork fabric ensembles. Those patchworks were created in chiffon fabrics and weighted down with the same embellishment running throughout, giving the garments movement when being walked in. Now you may be wondering why a traveller would be wearing such beautiful and opulent items of clothing when globetrotting. But you see this is a traveller with much deeper pockets than most on their gap year. She will only be travelling using the most comfortable modes of transport of course.

The complimentary yet beautiful in their own right shoes were the product of a collaboration with Manolo Blahnik and came in shapes including a thigh-high flat, ankle flats and mules, all shown in a simple block colour black, white or ‘splodge’ and some with the wonderful pearl embellishment. By pairing flats with dresses and playsuits, the styling genius of Joanna Schlenzka allowed for cheeky hints of orange thigh highs flashing through the black embellished chiffon of a strapless maxi dress.

This entire collection could inspire anyone to book a plane ticket to any spontaneous destination after feeling a little wanderlust.
