Ane Brun release – Do You Remember?

If you are a resident of the United Kingdom you may not have heard of Ane Brun yet. In truth, many respected European artists find themselves dropping short of success just before the chalky white cliffs. However, it’s an unfortunate tradition that the Norwegian singer-songwriter is hoping to dispel with her latest single Do You Remember? which is to be accompanied by her short film entitled ONE.

Whilst many artists, upon setting up their own independent record level, sink into obscurity and join the local pub circuit, Brun has continued to release successful multi platinum albums charting in many European countries (besides albeit, the United Kingdom).

The video for Do You Remember? is like a lost dream, fragments of which your mind insists on spewing back out at you. Fear starts to arise as military drums placate the appearance of a military jacket, which is then cued only by the arrival of a bed-ridden gentleman.

However, all initial anxiety and prejudice recede on the arrival of Brun. Upon entering the screen, the video comes alive when Ane’s powerful voice transforms the video and the music into an exciting showpiece of artistic vision. Her voice is so hypnotic that it takes time to realise that the music is in essence stripped of all complexity, and what remains is only tribal-esque drumming and the occasional pluck of a guitar string. ‘I had a particular idea for backing vocals on this tune. I wanted them to be energetic, desperate and quite folky.’

The video is the first of four, which are then to be interwoven into one flowing short film that is ONE. This shall be premiered in the autumn in unison with the release of Brun’s latest album, It all Starts With One. Ane is also touring the United Kingdom in November, stopping off in London, Birmingham and Glasgow.

The single is out now on Balloon Ranger Records
