Remix of Back to Black by Amy Winehouse backs London cabbies – words Alexa Wang
We’ve all used them and they are a symbol of London. Imagine London where you couldn’t flag a black cab down and let it whisk you away to some lavish event or urgent meeting.
Black cabs though have had a bit of a rough ride though in the last couple of years with the rise of apps that imitate their service. There have been strikes and lots of angry words exchanged as cabbies have felt their livelihoods threatened. But now they are fighting back in the best way possible.
Firstly The London Taxi Company have spent £300m on new cabs with some futuristic features and a new factory to build them. They are now digitally enabled and hooked into the app services Gett and Halio. So a transformation is underway.
To celebrate and to put pressure on whoever takes power on the forthcoming mayoral election they’ve release a song backed by a rather nice video. The London Taxi Company have collaborated with the Winehouse family no less who have given their permission to use a special remix of Back to Black by the inimitable Amy Winehouse to help back their #StayFareMayor campaign. The song is so right for it and that really comes across.
All this is to make sure that Black Cabs get a fair deal from whoever the next Mayor of London happens to be and politicians and regulators in general. Yes we have to move forward and apps are part of that but we have to do all that we can to make sure London cabs have a bright future. Can you imagine a London without them?
