This bank holiday weekend we’re going to give it a try, when we dress-up to board the SS:Atlantica and set sail down the Thames for a party reigniting the splendour of the 1930s ocean liner. Featuring live bands, floorshows, cabaret acts and dancing, the SS:Atlantica Party promises a Champagne-sodden foray into a vintage form of decadence.
Bourne & Hollingsworth (named for the turn of the 19th century Oxford Street department store) champion socialising, entertainment and booze; think The Chap Olympiad, The Tweed Run, Cocktails in the City and The Prohibition Party. But B&H have venues too – two cocktail bars in the West End and a club house, bar and restaurant in Clerkenwell. All share beautiful and original interiors with a singular aesthetic.
For the SS:Atlantica Party, the magnificent Silver Sturgeon will be transformed into a cruise liner circa 1931 to take us down the Thames with (in an idealised weather scenario of course) a soft spring breeze in your fur stole, the lapping waves under your pins, and the setting sun sparkling in your Martini glass. Curving balustrades and portholes encircle a dance floor lined by tables dressed with pristine white tablecloths, two bars serving classic cocktails and Champagne and a stage holding live floor shows, cabaret acts and bands.
Recreating a floating playground for the beautiful elite, SS:Atlantica guests should expect to be transported to an age of maritime grandiose, when voyagers dressed to the nines for dinner in spite of the choppy waves. Engage in Starboard rendezvous with suave gents, lounge Portside while quaffing cocktails or let loose on the dance-floor as Big Ben strikes midnight. Music will be provided by London’s finest live bands and singers, all performing in the style of the era. Guests will be treated to spectacular floorshows, cabaret acts and can expect to be twirled around the dancefloor.
The dress code is ‘At-Sea Formalwear’: So we’re thinking Agatha Christie dinner suits, or silent movie sirens. See you on deck for a cocktail!
