Eugene McGuinness – watch the video for new single ‘Lion’

Move over Dr. Zuess; there’s a new master of rhyming couplets in town. He’s currently touring as part of Miles Kane’s band and goes by the name of Eugene McGuinness and is back more dapper than ever with the track ‘Lion’ – what the man himself describes as “the biggest ‘fuck off’ my soul could muster”.

It’s certainly been a long time, no see for the ‘indie-pendent’ warbler so prepare your airwaves for a good old invigoration with his up coming album but in the meantime here’s a little insight to whet your appetite. We bring you the brand new single ’Lion’, hot on the heels of McGuinness’ ‘Monsters Under the Bed’ success during his burst on to the alt-rock scene way back in 2007, when winkle pickers and cravats were revolutionary. Think Franz Ferdinand and Arctic Monkeys twisted inside out and upside down and you’ll be somewhere close to Eugene McGuinness.

The new album, which is due for release in 2012, is equal parts arthouse and public, gritty and playful with charming undertones of retro electro-jazz and an exciting lack of inhibition – a recipe for underground success if there ever was one. Dynamic photographic duo, Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern shot this video of the snappy, suit-clad Eugene as he prowls the industrial wasteland of his Essex homeland, stalked by a quintet of dancers, who match his every move as they prance their synchronized  way through the urban decay. Lion is intense. The rhythms are driving and the nattily dressed Eugene comes across like a meltdown hero for our messed up age. Glam rock ’n’ roll with a swagger, a sneer and a bittersweet howl.

Watch it here and you can download the video at http://www.eugenemcguinness.net/. From the 5th December, ‘Lion’ will also be available as part of a digital bundle along with ‘Frosty’ – If Christmas did alternative mainstream…
