India Art Fair – 4th Edition – The Globalisation of Art

As well as a powerful cultural force, art is an increasingly global currency. The days when the West held sway when it came to Contemporary Art are fading fast. Rising superpowers are producing artists of international stature and there are new international art fairs emerging that reflect this new world. Art Fairs such as the Venice Biennale, Art Basel in Switzerland and Miami and Frieze Art Fair in London are well established but today Hong Kong, Tokyo, Taipei and Singapore all host major events. The Middle East  too is in on the act with Dubai the host city for the annual Gulf Art Fair.

So it comes as no surprise to see India Art Fair joining the ranks as a powerful new force in an increasingly international market for Contemporary Art. Now in its 4th edition, India Art Fair will showcase 90 galleries from Argentina, Australia, Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Iran, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, the U.A.E, U.K. and U.S.A. Hauser and Wirth (UK/Switzerland), White Cube (UK), Galleria Continua (Italy), Kalfayan Galleries (Greece) and Everard Read (South Africa) will be amongst the leading international galleries participating for the first time at the fair.

Neha Kirpal (Founding Director, India Art Fair) describes the upcoming edition of India Art Fair as, “An important milestone for the art fair which has witnessed exceptional growth and development in a short period of time. The 4th edition brings us closer to our goal of developing a truly world class fair, facilitating international exchange and trade, and contributing to the growth of a vibrant art scene in the Indian sub-continent.”

India Art Fair promises to increase awareness of contemporary art amongst the mainstream Indian public and also amongst younger audiences. It will also no doubt prove to have a wider impact on the art world in that region of the globe.

India Art Fair, 4TH Edition takes place 25-29 January 2012 in New Delhi
