Looking back to the 90s and 00s will no doubt fill your mind with some wonderful memories and cringe-worthy moments (our choice of clothes probably falling into the latter).
However, even though fashions have evolved since these times, there are still some throwbacks that live on today.
Below, we’ve uncovered some of the hottest footwear trends over the past few decades and how some of them are still going strong.
Nike Air Jordan
First released in 1984, these trainers were incredibly popular throughout the 80s and 90s, but have, more recently, made a comeback. Worn by a whole host of people, these trainers were, and still are, cool, because of the man behind them – Michael Jordan. As one of the world’s most famous basketball players, these shoes evoked his style, which is why they’re still a hugely popular piece of retro footwear today.
Heelys
These innovative shoes first burst onto the scene at the start of the millennium, offering kids (and adults) a unique way of getting around. Why were they cool? Because they had wheels on the bottom of them! Walking to and from school was never as much fun without these on your feet, and that’s perhaps why this great item of footwear has returned to popularity. A number of companies, including Proline Skates , offer a wide range of Heelys that have, thankfully, moved with the times.
High Tops
Granted, high tops will always be a go-to piece of footwear, providing you with a look that’s as casual as it is cool. This one of those continuing fashion footwear trends thanks to a resurgence of the high top during the early 00s with Converse dominating the casual footwear scene. You might also remember the popularity of canvas slip-ons (namely Vans) but this trend has died down somewhat more recently.
Shoes that Should Be Left in History
Even though the above shoes have, quite rightly, regained popularity following their 90s/00s success, there are some shoes that we’d like to forget about. These include the short-lived craze of high-heeled trainers, particularly when the classic trainer was teamed with a stiletto heel – what were we thinking? There was also the platform mule and the flip-flop with a wedge, neither of which lasted too long. Why? Because you can’t reform a classic piece of footwear, no matter how hard you try.
The reason some of the above are still hugely popular today is because they remain true to their roots, providing you with a retro piece of footwear that’s full of nostalgia.
