The Scarlet Blade starring Oliver Reed – Win the DVD

Oliver Reed gives a characteristically big performance in this historical romp based around the English Civil War. Reed plays Captain Sylvester a willing, grinning cohort to his Roundhead boss Colonel Judd also played with vigour and swagger by that old stalwart of British film, Lionel Jeffries.

Under orders Reed captures the King and takes him hostage. It is then up to a brave band of local loyalists led by the dashing Scarlet Blade to rescue the king and thwart the dastardly duo of Judd & Sylvester. The love interest is Claire, Judd’s daughter who has loyalist sympathies. She falls for the charms of The Scarlet Blade much to the bitter wrath of Sylvester who had his eyes on her for himself. This is a Hammer historical romp so don’t expect historical accuracy. It’s all great fun though and the powerful screen presence and obvious charisma of Oliver Reed steals the show.

Thanks to Studio Canal who are re-releasing this great British film we have 10 to give away to readers. To win a copy please email editorial@fluxmagazine.com and let us know the name of inimitable actor who plays Captain Sylvester.

The Scarlet Blade is out now on DVD.
