Andrea Crews Collection – Tour de Force

by Hannah Fleming

The preceding shows at ON/OFF during Paris Fashion Week was Yang Du, Bernard Willhelm and Cunnington and Sanderson but it was Andrea Crews show that became the pièce de résistance.

Led by Maroussia Rebecq,  Andrea Crews describes not an individual but a creative persona, made up of an eclectic assemblage of individuals and individuality. The Paris based design collective established in 2002 is ‘a platform of creation and multi-faceted art direction’ and the composition of the A/W 2012 offering is showed only a small part of what they do.

Their website talks of fashion, art and activism; their collection talked of grunge and street -nomad.  Located in a spacious studio 5 minutes walk from the Fille du Calvaire metro – the line of fashion glitterati was extensive and patient stretching along to the café at the end of the street  and suggesting that this was most anticipated.

Andrea Crews presented to electronic-industrial racket with occasional blasts of old internet dial-up. It was gargantuan.  Vast in assortment and ideas –  a mish-mash of everything, superimposed together with particular focus given to head-wear. Projecting a diversity of voices and handwritings, the Andrea Crews offering was difficult to conceptualise and even more to find words to describe.
