Inside Courtney’s Head – Courtney Love exhibition

by Thomas Browne

Courtney Love exhibition ‘And She’s Not Even Pretty’

Ever wondered what goes on inside Courtney Love’s head? Well now you can find out from Courtney herself. The first exhibition of her drawings featuring 45 works is going on show in a new exhibition at Fred Torres Collaborations in New York.

The drawings are an emotional tour-de-force that seem to fire themselves out at you from the page. Well known for wearing her heart on her sleeve Courtney Love’s drawings are like raw emotions that are clawing their way out to grab you by the throat and leave you reeling. There’s jagged scrawled text that sit on top spilling out Courtney’s inner most thoughts and emotions. These drawings come over as almost cute but with a deep dark undertone that draws you in for all the wrong reasons. The women are living dolls, all looking for love but in a desperate way and so seem doomed to failure. There’s a tragicomic aspect that hits you too. But it’s all so personal. This doll is  Courtney and the cast of characters – her friends and lovers. So it’s all too raw and real with an energy that makes you want to look away but still you stare.

Courtney Love And She’s Not Even Pretty in on show at Fred Torres Collaborations until June 15, 2012.
