When we think of Nashville, good food, great music, and excellent whiskey come to mind. Put them all together, and you’re in for a fantastic experience. This guide is for the foodies who want to explore Nashville primarily for the good eats and the lively culture built around it.
Biscuit Love: A Great Breakfast Joint
You’d be hard-pressed to find a better breakfast menu anywhere else in town. Biscuit Love is an expert when it comes to early-morning eats, including hearty biscuits, meats, eggs, and sides. Try the bonuts (biscuit-donuts), Civil War-era drop biscuits, and their sausage and gravy.
The Pancake Pantry: Worth the Wait
With over 23 made-from-scratch varieties of eggs, waffles, omelets, and of course, pancakes, you can’t go wrong with the large menu filled with tasty offerings. If you want to grab a bite of their sweet potato pancakes, you’re in for a long wait. But trust us, it’s more than worth it.
Josephine: Super Cute Brunch Place
Having brunch at Josephine is among the many fun activities to do in Nashville. Located at 12 South, Josephine is right in the thick of the hipster neighborhood filled with little boutiques and fine dining restaurants. Try their mimosas, brussels, and benedicts. They’re the best in town.
Hattie B’s Hot Chicken: Fantastic Chicken
Hattie B’s is truly a Nashville staple and an essential stop for anyone staying in the city. Their fried chicken, which ranges from southern (no heat) to the hottest (shut the cluck up), tastes incredible. Add collard greens or pimento mac n’ cheese for a delicious traditional side dish.
Husk: Fine Dining in a Nashville Mansion
With a menu that changes daily, the Husk is an incredible fine dining restaurant that features quality, local ingredients. If you’re lucky, you may get to try the crispy chicken skins, beef, or pimento cheese fresh from Bear Creek Farm. The famous Husk cheeseburger is to die for.
The Catbird Seat: Fine Dining Excellence
If you thought the one-hour wait at the Pancake Pantry was ridiculous, try a month. The Catbird Seat, a 32-seat, U-shaped restaurant, has a month-long waiting list. If you get in, you’ll get to enjoy a three-hour, nine-course tasting menu made and perfected by world-renowned chefs.
City House: Tasty, High-Quality Pizza
Although City House has a small menu, what’s included is incredible. City House is a local and industry favorite that features incredible tasting pastas and pizzas. Get ready for some bizarre ingredient combinations, like potato, spring onion, house-made mozzarella, and belly ham.
The 404 Kitchen: A Perfect Date Night
The 404 Kitchen is a dimly lit restaurant hosted in a former shipping container connected to a five-room hotel. This restaurant has some stand-out dishes that change seasonally, like the blacktip shark, gulf shrimp, and rabbit entrees. Be sure to try their selection of cocktails.
Mas Tacos Por Favor: Incredible Mexican Food
There wasn’t a lot of quality Mexican food before Mas Tacos Por Favor, but this restaurant changed that. The chicken tortilla soup, fried avocado taco, and pork taco are local favorites, but we recommend the fried fish taco, tilapia taco, and the incredibly tasty sweet potato quinoa taco.
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams: Unique Cones
Nashville dining isn’t complete without a bit of desert. Jeni’s has some incredible flavors, like lavender and peanut butter, salter-caramel, and roasted red cherries with goat cheese. You can even order alcohol-infused flavors. Try the cognac with gingerbread ice cream during X-mas.
If you’re interested in bar hopping, check out The Patterson House, Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, and Acme Feed & Seed. All three venues offer fantastic live music and tasty drinks. They’re located primarily on Nashville’s Music Row and are used to serving tourists.
