It’s important to remember that just because you want to save money doesn’t always mean you have to settle for cheap alternatives you’ll later regret. This advice is to make sure that every penny of your budget counts and goes towards getting the best kitchen possible, regardless of how much money you have. Check out the range of ex display kitchens here.

1. Shop around for cabinets to save money on a new kitchen.

Visit several locations, obtain several quotes, and don’t be afraid to haggle. You’ll be surprised how much you can reduce the price simply by asking and/or stating that you’ve been quoted a lower price elsewhere.

Also, don’t get caught up in big discounts, such as 50% off this month – it’s very likely that the price has been inflated so that the store can give you that discount. Finally, shop around in a few different places. It will not only assist you in locating the best price, but it will also provide you with various design ideas.

2. Purchase Appliances Online

Purchase your appliances online. Unless it’s a very specific item, most of the best big brands are available to buy online and are almost always less expensive than in a kitchen showroom.

You may even have more brand options because some showrooms only sell the brands that they display. Do some research to find what you want, and remember to buy it as soon as possible. You don’t want to get to the point where you need them the next day only to discover that they are out of stock.

You could also get your small appliances, such as the sink or tap, online, but the savings aren’t always as significant. However, if you’re looking to save the most money possible, there’s no harm in shopping around.

3. Get Discounts on Appliance Brands

When we can actually see the appliance, most of us only notice the brand. I frequently recommend purchasing a more well-known brand for the ovens and hobs to help people save money on their appliances because these are appliances that are always on display and can be important for resale value.

Appliances hidden behind cabinet doors, such as the dishwasher and possibly the fridge/freezer, as well as cooker hoods, can get away with slightly lesser-known brands.

These can have the same specifications as you want but cost less because they lack that specific badge. Nobody will ever know, and they are usually just as good (if not better) than the big brand names.

4. Get Your Own Worktop

This is a big one that can sometimes save you a lot of money.

If you have laminate or wooden (timber) worktops, your best bet is to buy the worktop lengths yourself online. There are many good online retailers for these types of worktops, and buying them yourself will be much cheaper than going through a kitchen showroom.

Most of the time, the kitchen showroom provides the exact same thing, only with a higher markup.

Worktops, both laminate and wood, come in standard sizes, so figure out how much you’ll need for each run of your worktop. Allow a little more than needed for cuts, and if it’s close, go up a size to be safe. If you have a wooden worktop, the offcuts can be used as chopping boards.

If you want a granite or quartz worktop, go directly to the stone fabricator or quarry rather than shopping online. Finding a good local stone fabricator will take some research and effort, but once you’ve found one or two, get some quotes for what you want.

It will almost certainly cost less than the same item quoted by your kitchen showroom. Again, the service and guarantee will most likely be the same, and it may even be the same company that the kitchen showroom uses, but you are eliminating the middleman.

5. Utilise a Locally Recognized Fitter

The cost of installing the kitchen itself can be significant. A good local fitter is usually less expensive than an in-house kitchen installation service from a kitchen showroom. Request recommendations, view some of their work if possible, and obtain a quote. When you research kitchen fitters, make sure that you know exactly what you want so you can ask them specific questions and get what you are looking for.

The disadvantage is that if they damage anything, you will have to negotiate a replacement and who will pay for it. If the in-house installation team of the kitchen company damages something, they will be the ones to replace it. Consider how much confidence you want in your kitchen fit and whether the savings are worth the extra risk.

It is critical to ensure that whoever is installing your kitchen is qualified. A low-cost kitchen installed properly can outlast and look far better than an expensive kitchen installed improperly!
