Arrows of Love release Desire – A slab of spit and snarl – words Alexa Wang
Sometimes you just want to hear a slab of spine crunching guitar and intense vocals. You might choose the Pixies or even the Sex Pistols when you want that instantaneous buzz from gutsy rock n roll.
We need new rock bands though to grab the torch and take that stage. There’s some great music around but not so much when you need some chord crunching intensity.
Step forward Arrows of Love. The East London rock n rollers are due to release their second album Product and have just released a gem in the form of latest single Desire.
There is epic guitar, noise, screeching but also thoughtfulness and tension in this rather special track. It’s real wear-your-heart-on-your-sleeve type stuff which is lacking right now in the UK music world. So, politics, sarcasm & hope inspire the lyrics as the guitars spit and snarl.
The second album Product is eleven tracks of grinding noise, atmospherics and tension. It has the sprit I’d say of Punk but the subtly and philosophy of alternative rock but makes its own style in the process.
The album was produced by Mikko Gordon (Thom Yorke, Gaz Combes), in the studio he built himself at Goldsmiths University, and mastered by Bob Weston of Shellac. Lead track ‘Signal’ was also given a mix by celebrated engineer Margo Broom (Fat White Family).
The 5-piece led by co-writers Nima and Nuha recently found themselves backed by the UK’s highly competitive PRS Momentum Music Fund. After accepting an invite from CMJ Music Marathon the band confirmed a string of US dates, followed by a headline London show with Parallel Lines before the album recording began.
Arrows of Love also have a reputation amongst fans as something of a live phenomenon. Originally aligned with the early East London wave of bohemian rock bands, it was their fierce performances and creativity that has taken them across the globe, to the likes of SXSW and End of the Road, to sharing stages with the likes of The Fall, Buzzcocks, British Sea Power, 80’s Matchbox B-Line Disaster, The Wytches and many more.
