Car SOS is what you get if you cross a car show with a life hanging makeover type show. It’s a car programme with a heart and it will have you weeping as well as smiling as the new Car SOS Series 4 launches this evening.
For those who know the formula they’ll all be tuning in at 8pm each Thursday to watch as each roller-coaster episode hits our screens. For anyone who’s not yet used to the Car SOS format I can boil it down to this.
You take a clapped out bashed up vintage car that’s seen better days. Add an owner who is for one reason or another in need of help with restoring the car. Then you take way the rusting pile in secret and hand it over to an expert team who love their cars. They painstakingly restore it back to its glory days. Then – hey presto – the owner is reintroduced to his beloved car that is now transformed.
Season four starts off with a bang with emotions running high – Tim Shaw and Fuzz Townsend, the show’s presenters cum car aficionados, rescue a gorgeous 1964 Volvo P1800 which starred in the sixties action series The Saint starring Roger Moore. The owner though has sadly suffered a stroke and his dreams of restoring his beloved classic have been shattered. The team though rush to the rescue and a happy ending looks assured. They even rope Roger Moore himself in to bless the car as it’s returned to its grateful owner.
This season sees some incredible vintage classics brought back to life by the Car SOS team including one of the most beautiful sports cars ever produced the very rare AC Aceca, a 1974 BMW 2002 Turbo and the head turning brilliance of the Datsun 240z.
Car SOS Series 4 premieres on Thursday 7th April at 8pm on National Geographic Channel
