Daniel Poole: 1990s streetwear pioneer relaunches!

1990s streetwear pioneer, Daniel Poole, relaunches his iconic urban dp-brand this season. It’s an innovative collection of functional bags based on his classic MA-1 bomber jacket.

Amongst the first wave of streetwear brands that would feed the early 1990s rave scene, Daniel Poole’s cult dp-brand helped define a subculture that was all about the underground, the eclectic and the DIY. dp-brand with its curvy, squat and louche logo was associated with sound systems, the digital revolution and with popstars, DJs and street savvy kids. Now a 1990s icon, an original dp bag is even part of the V&A museum’s collection.

First seen in 1987, the dp-brand MA-1 flight jacket was a classic of urban streetwear fashion. Its shape was taken from the 50s jackets revived by the mods, skinheads, punks, and with dp-brand, the ravers. This year, following in the revivalist footsteps of musical stars of the era, the pioneer of street wear has re-launched dp-brand with All-R-1. The range takes inspiration from the iconic MA-1 flight jacket, which has actually been reconstructed to create an impressive and diverse collection of bags.

Each of the 10 bags in the collection has a specific purpose. Whether it be a Smart bag, Techno bag, over the shoulder pouch or 48HR survival bag, the range covers the array of complications for the international modern traveller.  A Daniel Poole bag or a Daniel Poole jacket is always super functional loaded with pockets and zippers, and feature quality stitching, rivets and leather reinforcements.

Teaming up with his brother, action sports industry veteran Lawrence Poole, the duo have created the hero MA-1 backpack alongside smaller pouch bags. The collection has been designed in London and developed in Hossegor, France, the home of the European action sports industry. The bags will initially be available to buy on Kickstarter, where fans both new and old can secure a new piece of history from this much fabled creator. In the story or urban clothing brands, Daniel Poole is one that’s back on the radar.
