Got Wood? These Designer Eyewear Brands Do

These designer eyewear brands have wood and they aren’t trying to hide it.

In fact, wearing sunglasses and prescription glasses that have wooden frames is one of the newest global fashion trends. As we see it, wooden eyewear is becoming a must-have accessory for several reasons;

1) They are eco-friendly and biodegradable 2) They are lightweight and fun and 3) They are waterproof and float (which is pretty convenient if you’re into water sports).

Ray-Ban® and Woodys Barcelona are two eyewear brands that have caught onto this eco-eyewear phenomenon and have planted their roots deep.

Ray-Ban is well known for their classic black, acetate frames but their wooden frames offer a more exclusive and contemporary vibe. Currently, the popular Clubmaster ™ model is available in wooden materials such as Maple, Walnut and Cherry. The sunglass lenses are made of high-quality crystal and the eyeglass lenses are customisable.

Woodys Barcelona may be an unfamiliar name to you now, but it won’t be for long. This emerging eyewear company based out of Barcelona built their brand on wood and they plan to keep it that way. Woodys makes all of their eyewear products with eco-friendly, natural materials such as birch, bamboo, zebrawood, pear tree and even recycled skateboard.

They have more than 100 models, which come in a variety of fun, bright coloured frames and lenses. Each model is made using different cuts of wood – so no two are alike – and the craftsmen are always sure to respect the natural texture of the wood.

When it comes to their eyewear options, Woodys Barcelona sunglasses are more popular and favourites include the semi-rimless Hiroto, the square-framed Skate, as well as the round Mike frames. Popular eyeglass models include the square-framed Montmarte, as well as the oval-framed Dalston and Soho glasses.

If you are big into eyewear, it may be high time to add one of these guys to your collection. On the other hand, if you’ve never worn wooden eyewear before, why not give it a try? Rumor has it that this fashion trend won’t be stumped anytime soon.
