Brazilian superstar swimmer Fabiola Molina turned her frustration with her unflattering training swimwear into the gorgeous two piece sunkini that kickstarted her post swimming design career.
Fabiola Molina was a Brazilian swimming champion 110 times, and swam in three Olympic Games. A lover of fashion and Brazilian beachwear, the competition suits would never meet the grade for Molina, so she created her own innovative training swimsuit to overcome her dislike of the fit and colours of the suits she had worn before. It was pretty, colourful and comfortable and soon caught the attention of other athletes who loved the ‘Brazilian sunkini’ they began to see at international competitions.
Taking their interest seriously, Fabiola set up a service where swimmers could find and buy the suits, no matter where they were. In 2005 the online store was launched, and the range has grown ever since now offering a range of shapes and a beautiful, seasonal collection of different prints and colours.
Fabiola relocated from the USA back to her native Brazil and her swimwear brand has growing from her hometown of São José dos Campos, supported by international delivery by Fedex and its support service for small businesses. Today, about 35% of the suits manufactured monthly in São José dos Campos find their way via online orders to swimwear lovers in countries like USA, France, Germany, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Norway, Slovak, Slovenia, Sweden, Australia, South Africa and Russia where they arrive in two to three days of leaving the store.
Fabiola is feeding back into the community she comes from, supporting the São Matheus Institution, which works in different ways with disadvantaged children. The company donates pieces of their gorgeous printed fabric to the children every season, so they can make clothes for Barbie dolls that are sold in the community.
