words Al Woods

Europe is a relatively small continent – there’s no doubt about it. Yet, this tiny place still has so much to offer in terms of differences in attractions, language, and culture. It’s no wonder Europe is top of the list of places to go for holiday goers from all over the world!

Yet, with so many historical landmarks, attractions, and exotic resorts to choose from. How do you even know where to begin? There are so many natural wonders and beautiful landscapes that are worth a visit. This article has narrowed some of the best places to visit within Europe down to just six. So whether you’re going for a week or a month, you can add some of these gorgeous spots to your Europe checklist.

The Spanish Steps in Rome, Italy

The Spanish steps in Rome are an absolute must-see because of their beauty and historical significance.

The Spanish steps were built in order to link the Bourbon Spanish Embassy, and the Trinità dei Monti church, to the Holy See and Spanish Square below.

The steps consist of a number of curves, straight flights, vistas, and terraces. Many repairs have been required on the steps throughout the years, with the most recent one occurring in 1995.

From mid-April to mid-May, the azaleas on the stairwells are dyed pink, making for lovely photographs. After you’ve spent your time at the Spanish Steps, most tourists head to the classic Trevi Fountain nearby.

The Vatican City

the Vatican city is a must-see if you ever visit Rome because it is the smallest city in the world, and is also home to the pope.

The Vatican in Rome is spectacular because of all the incredible history within its walls.

Europe hot spots

The best attractions in the Vatican include St. Peter’s Square (Piazza San Pietro), St. Peter’s Basilica, and the Vatican Museums, which house the Sistine Chapel.

Within this tiny city, you can also find the gorgeous Apostolic palace which is open to the public for visitations and is surrounded by the most beautiful gardens. However, for most of these attractions visitors need to book tickets, so make sure you buy your Vatican tickets in advance. The Eternal city waits for no one!

The Matterhorn in Switzerland

The Matterhorn is one of the most iconic mountain ranges in the Alps of Europe and is a must-see for anyone visiting Switzerland.

The mountain is known for its pyramid-like shape and is one of the most popular spots for climbers and hikers.

There’s a lot of history as well as beauty to soak up when visiting this mountain range – so a tour is probably the best option so you can learn the history whilst you take in the beauty of the breathtaking surrounding landscape.

Interestingly, an Englishwoman named Lucy Walker became the first woman to reach the top of the Matterhorn, and she did it whilst wearing a long flannel skirt!

The Ring of Kerry in Ireland

The Ring of Kerry is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ireland and for good reason.

The ring is a circular route that takes you through some of the most stunning scenery in the country, including the Killarney National Park.

The drive takes about 3 hours to complete and is definitely worth it for the stunning views.

Europe highlights

The Athens Acropolis in Greece

The acropolis is a large hill that overlooks the city of Athens and is home to some of the most important ancient ruins in Greece, including the Parthenon.

The acropolis is definitely worth a visit for its incredible views and historical significance.

The Northern Lights in Norway

A must-visit in Europe are the Northern lights of Norway, as they truly are an out-of-this-world experience.

Europe tourism

Between late September and late March, Northern Norway is dark from early afternoon until late morning, and the northern lights frequently soar across the sky. This part of Norway is recommended as the most beautiful area to see the Northern Lights!

The region of Northern Norway has everything from bustling nightlife and magnificent museums to modest fishing villages, as well as vast tranquil spaces.

Enjoy Europe!

Whether you’re going to Europe for two weeks, or two months – you should have plenty of time to visit most of these gorgeous landmarks.

Domestic flights are very regular at major city airports within the continent. And the flights are rarely more than an hour or two in length – so you have plenty of time to city hop from place to place if you’re traveling from afar and have a tight itinerary.

Even if you don’t fit everything in one trip as you’d wished – you’ll just have to visit again. Europe isn’t going anywhere anytime soon! Enjoy!
