Engrossed in the atmosphere backstage before the show, Henry Holland dances as he watches the models on the catwalk for his SS16 show.
Put together in just 100 days, the Cashless on the Catwalk event enabled 10 front row VIPs, including Daisy Lowe and Alexa Chung, to literally go cashless, and make real-time purchases from pieces of the collection using near-field communication (NFC) payment rings and smart brooches. The smart jewelry contains a payment receiver tag that links via Bluetooth Smart to a virtualized terminal and Visa’s payment network. The whole process took the concept of an impulse buy to the next level.
It was a fashion lover’s dream, too as the show, at Collins’ Music Hall in Islington kicked off with a performance by Birmingham-born grime rapper, Lady Leshurr.
The collection had an inherently 70s louche feel, with heavy psychedelic feathery prints and bold stripes, complimented by big sunglasses and bucket hats. Cashless goes cool. You bet.
