The Jean Paul Gaultier Summer Edition fragrances read like a history book of the designer’s summer clothing collections – with each bottle ‘dressed’ to reflect the current catwalk stand out pieces.
When launching his fragrance range in 1993, what could be more natural from the flamboyant designer than to encase the sweet smelling liquids in a female torso? The silhouette was cheeky, all cinched in waist and cleavage cast in glass. And when the fragrance range expanded to include the summer fragrances that make up the ‘Classique’ range in 1997, what better than to dress his girls for summer and add red hot designs to the torsos inspired by the prints and themes of the Jean Paul Gaultier catwalk collections.
We thought it would be great to get some of the Jean Paul Gaultier summer girls together with photographer James Champion for a family portrait, a history if you like, of his summer fragrance hits. And of course it acts as an initiation to the new Jean Paul Gaultier fragrance for 2011 – the Silver My Skin Limited Edition that will launch in August this year. This being fashion, some were too busy to attend. But those that did had a wild wild time.
