New York in the Fall: Best time to travel to the Big Apple

Autumn is a great time to be in New York City. New York in the fall is neither too hot nor too cold, and the flights are often cheaper!

When does fall start in New York? Like the rest of the Northern hemisphere, the answer is September. New York in the fall is just gorgeous. The parks are beautiful as the leaves change colour. In addition, there are a huge number of cultural events at this time of year, and since there are fewer tourists in town, everything feels a little more intimate. The ideal type of event to go to is one that combines sightseeing and entertainment. That way you get the most bang for your buck – just as the New Yorkers like it.

Comedy

New York is the home to some of the world’s greatest comedians, from Louis CK to the cast of Saturday Night Live. So no trip to New York is complete without a trip to see someone who will make your ribs hurt and your funny bones tickle. And luckily for you, from October 28-November 10 is New York comedy week. The biggest names in American comedy all will be performing in New York in the fall, and if you get in early, you can get 2-for-1 tickets to some of the city’s best comedians and venues.

The Bronx

The Bronx is the forgotten cousin when it comes to New York tourism. Most people head to Manhattan or Brooklyn, and don’t bother to venture to the most northerly borough of the city. However, the first Friday of every month is worth travelling to the Bronx for. Not only is the famous Bartow-Pell mansion free for tourists, but so is a trip on the Bronx Seaside Trolley. This is a great way to see the Bronx, as well as explore some of the lesser-known parts of the city – and all for free!

When talking about accommodation, these New York vacation rentals are a great option for those who want to stay in the city but also have some peace and quiet. Located away from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, these rentals offer a more relaxed atmosphere and are often cheaper than traditional hotels. Plus, many of them come with fully equipped kitchens so you can save money by cooking your own meals.

Halloween

According to TimeOut, the Greenwich village Halloween parade is set to be a bigger event than usual this year. In 2012, the event was cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy, and the New Yorkers don’t like to miss an opportunity for a party twice in a row. Not only is the event completely free to attend – you can either watch it from the street, or inside one of the Village’s many bars and cafes. It is a great opportunity to explore this unique area on the West Side of Manhattan.

Cruise

One of the problems with being in Manhattan is that it’s not possible to get the iconic view of the city. The best place to do that is to head out onto the water. Booking on a Circle Line Sightseeing Cruise New York will get you off dry land, and take you all round the city’s best views. Although New York is a vibrant and buzzing place, it is only from the tranquility of the water that you can experience its real beauty.

So, if you’re heading to New York in the fall, get exploring! A city as rich and varied as the Big Apple deserves some planning and some getting to know. So combine the city’s events with some obligatory sightseeing to double your fun and get to understand what makes New York the greatest city on Earth.
