We’re counting down to this year’s edition of Barcelona’s famous Primavera Sound music festival, where for the third year running, Bower and Wilkins are powering up their dynamic Sound System.
The first Primavera Sound festival kicked off in 2001, and since then it’s become the biggest alternative music festival in the world presenting everything from Arcade Fire and The Black Keys to Caribou and SBTRKT all taking place alongside the stunning Mediterranean. Always placing the next big thing alongside established pioneers (this year’s headliners include Radiohead, P.J. Harvey and Sigur Ros), it’s a city wide experience of a festival and a meeting point for artists and spectators.
Adding to the intoxicating mix, famous British speaker brand Bowers & Wilkins brings its beats to the beautiful venue in Barcelona’s Parc del Fòrum for the third consecutive year.
Bowers & Wilkins’ Sound System will feature the best electronic music on the planet pumped out through an extraordinary 135,000 Watts of power in a towering speaker array that delivers a level of audio detail previously unheard at live performances.
Taking over the newly created Beach Club, the Sound System stage will be alive with a whopping 18 hours of programming per day, set against the backdrop of the glistening Balaeric sea. The Floating Points DJ set will kick off day one of the three-day marathon, with other acts including great disco revivalists Todd Terje, British DJs Erol Alkan and Rory Phillips (Alkan’s partner in crime during those mythical nights at Trash in London), followed by dark sounds and techno with live sets by Powell, Broken English Club, Klavikon and the Barcelona artist Pina and winding up with Jessy Lanza and Har Mar Superstar.
The second day is all about house music and disco with DJ sets by German veteran Dj Koze, the Irish artist Mano Le Tough, Kompakt label artist Scharre, and British duo Simian Mobile Disco. Live sets will include Sophie and the French pioneer Black Devil Disco Club and Dj Supermarkt (presenting “The Ladies of Too Slow to Disco”), the Catalan artist beGun, Daniel Kyo from Valencia and denizens of contemporary disco music, Tiger & Woods and The Maghreban.
On the third and final day catch the showcase by Barcelona’s Hivern Discs label with live acts Dorisburg and Cleveland, Lena Willikens from Germany and veteran Dutch DJ and producer I-F. There will also be time for electronic music heavyweights, Leon Vynehall, Dj Richard, Matthew Dear from Canada, Suzanne Kraft, Trevor Jackson and the American promoter and DJ Dave P.
Primavera Sound takes place in Barcelona from 1st to 5th June, with the Bower & Wilkins Sound System running from 2nd to 4th June. See www.primaverasound.com.
