Hussein Chalayan is flying off the blocks with his latest sports fashion trainers for PUMA.
The Turkish designer who became creative director for the sports fashion label some three years ago. And we’re seeing his narrative design approach to the PUMA by Hussein Chalayan collection resulting in a range of amazing luxury sports fashion styles that are innovative and wearable.

This season his inspiration for the PUMA by Hussein Chalayan collection is sailing and kite flying. The sense of air and movement is minimal and just plain cool. The footwear design is distinct, clean and methodical, capturing the interplay of sport, motion and speed through lightweight materials and supportive constructions.
Superhero-esque with its moulded glider heels, the Urban Swift is all about movement inspired by Hussein Chalayan’s mainline collection, ‘Inertia’. The shoe encapsulates speed and makes a statement about the “speed of our lives.” The distinctive shape is an innovative twist to a classic leather upper for forward thinking sneaker fiends.
The Hasst Leather builds upon the speed concept with its performance running tooling. This EVA-rubber underlines a minimalist construction with a lightweight, deconstructed, barely-buck leather upper. With its perforated pigskin lining and comfortable materials, it’s a season essential.
The Allvar Lo is a male reworking of last season’s Women’s Decon Lo. The upper is formed of unlined, perforated Italian leather to give the piece a deconstructed, breathable feel suitable for the season. The look is completed with PUMA by Hussein Chalayan’s footwear signature stencilled formstripe.
The colours are vibrant and sharp, with the blue and coral of the Allvar Lo and Urban Swift contrasting with the silvery grey of the Hasst style. Entitled ‘Secured Speed’, what can we say? Walk down the street as if you can fly!
