Tom Ford has released a brand new fragrance Tom Ford Violet Blonde and the scent world and aficionados everywhere are getting very hot under the collar indeed. Is it as good as they say it is?
Choosing a fragrance to wear on your skin is a deeply personal decision. Yes some people slap on the latest release from their favorite brand without a thought and some blokes I know brazenly face the world with skin that’s seen nowt but soap and water. Many people though take a serious interest in their scents. Any major new release is checked out, discussed and sampled many times before making it part of their personal style statement.
Well looking at the bottle, Tom Ford Violet Blonde certainly looks the part. The fire polished and ribbed bottle is clear so you can see the golden cognac colour of the liquid itself. The name is stamped onto a gold plate attached with rivets. This is radiating classic opulence and timelessness.
Now we get to the scent. What does Violet Blonde actually mean? Well there is certainly a lot of violet. This has been combined with Orris and Iris Flower but the Violet shines through strongly. This is a modern twist on a classic Violet and is a bold reinvention. It has some warm woody bottom notes such as Cedarwood that help to deepen the effect and give a kind of smoky indulgent hue that compliments the vibrant top notes.
According to Tom Ford himself: “Violet Blonde has the spirit of a classical, European fragrance. It is formal, polished, and yet draws you in closer and closer, like a beautifully dressed woman whose refined presence charms, then fascinates, and ultimately seduces you.”
To sum up the overall effect is contemporary take on old school opulence. It is bringing the age old traditions of perfumery – when the most precious and expensive ingredients were crafted behind closed doors into rare scents only accessible to the rich few – and twisting this into a modern incarnation to be enjoyed by women everywhere.
