ski adventure

While some people absolutely dread the end of summer and the approach of winter, for others this means one thing, and one thing only: skiing season is getting closer!

Skiing and snowboarding may not be for everyone, but the lure of the mountains, the white slopes and the obvious attraction of the après ski lifestyle is hard to deny. So, if you’re part of the group of people who can’t wait to hit the slopes for a ski adventure this year, you’ll enjoy this little overview on one of Europe’s most attractive destinations Val d’Isère.

Espace Killy

Located in the south of France and just a stone’s throw away from Tignes, you will find Val d’Isère. The ski area, shared between Tignes and Val d’Isère, was formally known as Espace Killy. This amazing area is popular for several reasons. An incredible 60% of its pistes are over 2,200 meters above sea level and offers skiers some of the best ski experiences in the Alps. In addition, the area has a staggering 300km of pistes, so you will have plenty to explore during your ski adventure trips.

A Slope for Everyone

Due to its sheer size, there is a slope for everyone. Whether you have only just caught the skiing bug or you are seasoned skier, you won’t be bored. The area has a fantastic number of slopes. There are 22 green runs for beginners, 61 blue pistes, 46 red ones and an amazing 25 black slopes. To get to these slopes, free buses are available to transfer you to the lifts. Val d’Isère also has eighteen official schools for all levels, so you will able to brush up your skills. It is worth noting that not all schools offer both snowboarding and skiing. Language skills also differ according to each school, so if your French isn’t great, make sure you pick a school where the instructor speaks English.

Research your Accommodation Options

As it’s such a popular destination, the area is home to many different resorts and hotels. You should consider the needs of your group in choosing the right kind of accommodation. If you’re visiting with a big group of friends, find a hotel or self-catered accommodation that fits in with your après ski habits. This way you can enjoy your holiday exactly the way you want considering party member’s needs, such as small kids or older members when you come back from après ski. If you want a family-oriented resort, consider a Mark Warner Val d’Isère holiday. They offer great deals and nanny services – perfect for families with younger children. Wherever you decide to stay, avoid disappointment and book your accommodation in time!

Apres Ski

If you like to enjoy a drink or two after skiing, Val d’Isère will not disappoint. Nowhere else does après ski quite like they do. Whether it be quiet bars, extravagant parties or live music, there is a venue for everyone. The area is also home to the original La Folie Douce, who have since then branched out into other areas. Every afternoon La Folie Douce has DJs, singers, dancers and entertainers for the ultimate après ski experience.
